Electricity Bills Surge Across Australia, NSW Sees the Biggest Increase
Australia’s top five electricity retailers all raised their prices in July. Among them, Red Energy, a government-owned electricity retailer, announced a 15% increase in New South Wales — the largest price hike among power companies — affecting 474,000 customers in the state. This means an average household bill will rise by AUD $330 per year.
At the same time, the federal government announced that this year’s household electricity subsidy will be reduced from AUD $300 per household to AUD $150.
Due to rising grid costs, electricity prices have surged nationwide, with NSW experiencing the sharpest increase. Other electricity companies have also announced price hikes, including AGL (13.5%), Alinta (11.5%), Origin (9.1%), and Energy Australia (8.7%).
