How the rebate is worked out
The NSW scheme deems the value upfront as Peak Reduction Certificates.
- Usable capacity: 90% of your battery's nameplate size, unless your spec sheet says otherwise.
- Shifting capacity: Usable capacity times the activity rate gives the peak demand you can shift, in kW.
- Capacity removed: That times a 6-hour peak window, times the battery's deemed lifetime, gives the total capacity taken off the grid.
- Certificates: Your network loss factor is applied, then multiplied by 10 and rounded down. That's your PRCs. PRCs times the PRC price is your rebate.
What makes a battery eligible
Every project has to clear these gates before certificates can be created.
Battery on the Clean Energy Council approved products list. Every Sumray ESS unit qualifies. Installed by an accredited installer, with network and planning approvals in place.
Installed inside the activity's date window. Home and small business start 1 July 2026. Apartment, business and commercial start 1 September 2026.
Business and commercial batteries are claimable once per site and need new solar of at least a quarter of the battery's usable capacity.
Why timing matters
The higher rebate rate only applies if your battery goes in within 90 days of new solar. Miss that window and the rate drops, for the same hardware. PRC prices also move with the market, so the number you see today is not locked in. The sooner you install, the sooner the value is claimed off your invoice.
